Data Analyst and Developer

Job Description:

We seek a creative, innovative Data Developer for initial contractual work, with the possibility of leading to a permanent position.

"Data Developer" (rather than "Database Developer") because you are engrossed by Data. You can and will massage it, analyze it, squeeze it, flip it, multiply it, reduce it and migrate it to get the best value out of it.

You understand the inherent wells of knowledge embedded within Data.

Whether it is in an SQL database, a flat-file, delimited file, spreadsheet, legacy or other location, you have the creativity and know-how to manage it and move it between them all.

You will be initially involved with two projects:

1. The consolidation of data from four different sources, some relational, other to be determined, into a single representation (report) of the information.

2. A custom-designed scientific research database application. You will be involved as early as the design stage.

Skills:

• Deep understanding of data and data hygiene.
• Evangelical belief in proper data and database design
• Understanding of the Relational model and normalized data.
• Specialized knowledge of a report writer -- your choice (examples: Crystal Reports, MS SqlReportingServices; your depth of knowledge of the tool is most important).
• SQL Server 2000 and 2005; MySQL or other RDBMS.
• Scripting skills (VBS, Unix scripting flavours, Windows Scripting, PHP, Perl, other.)
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access.
